Newly released search warrant documents have revealed disturbing allegations in an ongoing hazing investigation involving the Sigma Nu fraternity at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
The documents, obtained by ABC11’s investigative team, describe alleged incidents involving fraternity pledges, including physical abuse, forced consumption of dangerous substances and other activities that investigators are examining as part of a broader criminal investigation.
According to the warrants, investigators reviewed video recordings that allegedly showed pledges being kicked and slapped. Other recordings reportedly depicted individuals being subjected to degrading and potentially dangerous acts inside the fraternity house.
The investigation has also involved the seizure of electronic devices and other evidence from the property.
NC State and Sigma Nu suspend fraternity chapter
The university and Sigma Nu’s national organization have placed the fraternity’s Beta Tau chapter on interim suspension while the investigation continues.
NC State University Police confirmed that they are conducting a separate criminal investigation and executed search warrants at the fraternity house and on several members’ phones.
The university said student safety remains a priority and that it does not tolerate hazing.
Sigma Nu’s national organization also acknowledged the evidence described in the investigation. In a November 5 statement, the organization said it would support and cooperate with law enforcement.
Criminal investigation remains ongoing
The allegations described in the search warrants have not established the guilt of any individual. Authorities have not announced charges related to the specific hazing allegations described in the November 5 reporting.
The investigation is separate from the university’s administrative disciplinary process.
Students and families awaiting further information should follow official updates from NC State University and law enforcement.
